Rental cars for wheelchair users are available from Paravan, from the large car rental companies Avis and Europcar, but also from small local providers such as the Berlin-based company Rolli in Motion.
In cooperation with Paravan, Avis offers the converted VW Caddy Maxi at over 100 locations in Germany. If requested in good time, there is also the option of having the car delivered to one of the other Avis locations.
The Caddy offers space for a wheelchair user and 5 other passengers and is suitable for both self-drivers with walking disabilities (active drivers) and passengers (passive drivers) or families with disabled children. As an active driver with walking disabilities, you can operate the brake and accelerator by hand. If you are a passive driver and a person without walking disabilities is at the wheel, the hand control can be switched off by pressing a button and the car can be controlled regularly using the foot pedals.
All rental cars have navigation systems and parking aids. In addition, you can include specific notes when renting so that the car is adapted accordingly. For example, you can specify a particular type of wheelchair and note which equipment you need, e.g. a hand control for brake and accelerator or a wheelchair lift.
Europcar also offers the Caddy Maxi. The usual locations are Munich, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Hamburg and Berlin, as well as at all German airports and railway stations. On request, however, the rental cars suitable for disabled people can also be picked up at up to 200 km away from the respective location.
