Comprehensive insurance is absolutely essential when renting a car. It covers damage caused by the driver's own fault. On your voucher, this car rental insurance is called CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) or VDI (Vehicle Damage Insurance). It also covers damage in the event of theft (TP/theft protection).
Rental car liability insurance with sufficient coverage is also mandatory. It covers damage caused by the driver to objects and persons not in their car.
Damage to glass, tyres, roof and underbody is not automatically covered by comprehensive insurance, but requires separate insurance cover. This is usually guaranteed by the so-called glass and tyre insurance.
Additional insurances, for example for the theft of personal belongings or medical repatriation, can be added during the booking process if required.
We recommend a fully comprehensive insurance without excess in every country, regardless of the provider. This offers comprehensive insurance cover against accident costs for a manageable surcharge of 12% of the rental price on average.
