Where can I apply for an International Driving Permit?

You can apply for an International Driving Permit at any driving licence office (all road traffic departments).

Bring the following items with you for the application:

  • a recent biometric passport photo
  • your German driving licence
  • the handling fee (approx. €15)

if you have all the necessary documents with you, your driving licence will be issued to you on the spot. Otherwise, it may take approximately 4 weeks to process your application If you do not have a new EU driving licence, your old licence will be automatically exchanged for the new plastic card as required. An International Driving Permit is valid for 3 years and is only valid together with your national driving licence.
