Yes, in many cases you have the option to drive across borders with the rental car. This offers you great flexibility and allows you to travel to several countries in one go. Especially in Northern and Western Europe or the EU, border crossings are usually no problem, for example from Sweden to Norway or from Germany to France.

The situation is different for border crossings from Western to Eastern Europe. Different insurance conditions apply. For example, journeys are often only permitted with certain vehicle classes or brands.

There are also very different rules on other continents. Driving a rental car across countries in South America is almost always prohibited. Within North America (USA and Canada), crossing the border is usually no problem, but heading south to Mexico generally is.

Important: Even if crossing the border is allowed according to the rental conditions, you must actively inform the rental company. Otherwise, you might suddenly find yourself unable to continue your journey on an unannounced spin to a neighbouring country. You can registerthe border trip as a request when booking under "Extras and individual requests".
